Emmett Smith has been training in
Shotokan Karate since 1982. He started his training with Sensei
Thomas J. Ryan in Littleton Colorado at the age of 14. At the age
of 18 he enlisted in the US Army as a Military Policeman and served
Two years in Germany where he trained at the Shito Ryu dojo in Pirmasens
as well as the JKA Dojo in Kaiserslautern West Germany. Emmett advanced
to the rank of Shodan under Sensei John Bolosan in Kaiserslautern
West Germany in 1987.
Emmett was then assigned to the military
police company at Fort Carson Colorado in 1989 and trained with
the Local AJKA instructor Sensei Britt Baugh as well as traveling
to Littleton to attend training with Sensei Ryan. Emmett finished
his enlistment in the Army, Joined the Denver Sheriffs Department
and was promoted to Nidan in 1991.
He continued to serve as an assistant
instructor and completed several courses on instruction to serve
as a referee in Karate competitions. Emmett relocated to Dallas
Texas where he has continued teaching and works as a civilian employee
at a suburban police department near Dallas.
